Ob/Gyn Dispatches During COVID-19: Meera Garcia, MD

Each day during the COVID-19 crisis, we'll share an update from a member of our team in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Today's note is from Meera Garcia, MD, Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYP/Hudson Valley Hospital.

Groundhog signaled an early spring
News from afar cautioned of a poisonous wind
Some acted out of an abundance of caution
Others threw caution to that same wind

Now it’s war with a virulent enemy
We are fighting in LDR, ICU, and sporting hall
Our leaders are planning, steering, supporting
The dangerous work being done by us all

I am so impressed by our guides in this process
So saddened by the losses we have sustained
My trust has gained many footholds - there’s
Comfort in the knowledge we have gained

Life, a river, continues to ebb and flow
Sun still rises though spring has hit snooze
We spend more time inside our houses
Our locked-down family, pets, and booze

Many warriors strive in epic struggle
Social distancing is the new deal
Still most say - put me in coach!
History assures me - we all will heal.
