Message From the Program Director

Training Leaders. Transforming Lives.

Rini Banerjee Ratan, MD

Dear Future Colleagues,

Welcome to Columbia Obstetrics & Gynecology!

Medicine is a profession of extraordinary privilege and profound responsibility. In Obstetrics and Gynecology, we are invited into some of the most intimate and defining moments of our patients' lives. It is a calling that demands not only knowledge and skill, but compassion, humility, courage, and an enduring commitment to those who place their trust in us.

As educators, we have an equally important responsibility: to nurture the next generation of physicians who will carry that trust forward.

At Columbia, our vision extends beyond training exceptional clinicians and surgeons. We aspire to cultivate thoughtful, inquisitive physicians who question what is known, seek what is possible, and recognize that the practice of medicine is as much about humanity as it is about science.

I believe that the most meaningful education happens when high expectations are matched by genuine investment in each individual's growth. We want our residents to develop the confidence to make difficult decisions, the wisdom to recognize what they have yet to learn, and the courage to lead with integrity and compassion.

Above all, I hope that the years you spend with us will shape not only the physicians you become, but the values you carry throughout your careers. The knowledge you acquire will evolve, the practice of medicine will change, but the way you care for others, the questions you dare to ask, and the example you set will leave a lasting mark.

I look forward to welcoming you to Columbia and to the extraordinary possibilities that lie ahead.

Warmly,

Rini Banerjee Ratan, MD
