As part of ongoing efforts in community engagement and public health education, Columbia Ob/Gyn participated in Healthy Haven: Promoting Wellness, Education, and Community health fair. The health fair took place on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from noon to 5pm at Haven Plaza, part of the main Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus. The plaza was open to pedestrians and provided welcoming green-space setting for all to enjoy.

Staff and faculty members from the department handed out educational literature and giveaways to attendees. Dara Matseoane-Peterssen, MD, Ana Cepin, MD, Ashanda Saint Jean, MD, Ana Tergas, MD, Kristine Keating, Ana Jacobo, and Dania Acosta represented the department, sharing information about our services. Gynecologic oncology specialists Dr. Cepin and Dr. Tergas also shared important 30-minute presentations about HPV and cervical cancer prevention in honor of Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.

The health fair featured a broad range of activities including medical screenings, health and wellness promotion, health awareness and education, preventive medicine workshops, health insurance information, entertainment, and more. The event offered a day of educational and informational activities in a dynamic, collaborative, and fun environment.

“Healthy Haven brings together our institution and community based organizations to highlight and share information about the numerous and valuable health services and resources available in our community,” said Rafael Lantigua, MD, Director of the Office of Community Service Programs and Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
