The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at CUIMC held their annual holiday party on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2017. The event is a way for the department to relax and unwind in the midst of what can be a stressful time around the end of the year, and also celebrates the hard work and many achievements of the department's faculty, students, and staff.

The event featured passed hors d'oeuvres and a plated meal, drinks, and a photobooth with a multitude of holiday-themed and goofy props, which was enjoyed by many. Music provided by DJ Ron got the crowd moving, but it was a performance from the Ob/Gyn holiday band that brought down the house.

Led by the department's Director of Research Michelle DiVito, who manages the band (formerly known as The Microarrays) and coordinates rehearsals as well as lending her talents on keyboard, the performance by the Ob/Gyn holiday band's performance is the can't-miss event of the holiday party every year. This year’s band included: Michelle DiVito on keyboard, Dr. Joses Jain on guitar, Jon Martinez on bass, Nick Senn on drums, and Dr. Dorothy Smok on the accordion with vocals from Dr. Aleha Aziz, Dr. Cynthia Gyamfi-Bannerman, Dr. Chia-Ling Nhan-Chang, Dr. Smok, and Dr. Noelia Zork. Guest vocalists included Zoilo Castillo and Wanda Kimber-Winfree.

This year’s set list included a wide assortment of favorite songs:

  1. A Fifth of Beethoven
  2. Uptown Girl
  3. Rockin Around the Christmas Tree
  4. I Wanna Hold Your Hand
  5. Killing Me Softly
  6. Livin’ La Vida Loca
  7. Like a Prayer

The holiday band is always welcoming new talent from among the faculty, residents, fellows, and staff of the Ob/Gyn department. Those interested in being a part of this fun tradition should contact Michelle.
